We frequently have to have prints made down for next morning crossover pickup, so they have to be made down immediatley after showing, but they're always done properly, even if it does mean that security charge us extra for holding that part of the building open after normal hours.  |  IP: Logged Randy Stankey Film God Posts: 6539 From: Erie, Pennsylvania Registered: Jun 99 posted 12-30-2004 11:32 PM                     There's nothing intrinsically wrong with leaving a note in a can explaining a problem with the print inside. However, you must have done everything possible to rectify the situation first. Let's say you got the print with no leaders. They just aren't there. You make temporary leaders out of old film and leave them on the reels. In this case, Yes! Leave a note explaning the problem and how you solved it! On the other hand, if you simply left the leaders rolled up in the can and put a note in that said, "I didn't attach the leaders... Sorry", the next guy is likely to think you're an idiot. You didn't have time to do the job the way you are supposed to do it but you DID have time to leave a note?! If you are organized when you build the print it takes ZERO extra seconds to splice the leaders back on. Here's a hint: Leave the tails attached to the reel. Carefully roll up the heads and tuck them between the flanges. Use the roll of leader to hold the loose end of the tail from flapping around. When it comes time to bread down, you mount your reel onto your MUT, make one splice and start winding. When you get to the end, splice the head on, replace the tape/band and you're finished with that reel. Repeat ... Someone sent me a box of old trailers (some rare) via "Media Mail" (aka "Special Fourth Class"). You apparently destroyed the original box and sent me two new boxes of mostly loose and disorganized film. You obviously made no attempt whatsoever to preserve the integrity of the trailers. You also put stickers on the boxes which said something to the effect of "sorry we damaged you shipment." I go to a hospital to get a knee replacement and when it's all done, I see the doctor has left me a note attached to my leg which reads, "Sorry, I didn't have time to attach a few of the tendons." Or I go into KFC and order a box of chicken and it comes with a note saying, "Be careful, I wasn't paying attention and the chicken never got cooked long enough to kill salmonella bacteria." What kind of crap is this? A professional doesn't make excuses. Either the work is done up to professional standards or the guy gets fired (good management). Or, if it is management that is making it impossible to do the work correctly (bad management) with the resources they are providing, he should be dropping notes to THEM -- duke it out with management rather than continuing to do shoddy, substandard work. To the projectionist: I hate you, your kids, and your cat!! Just got in that horrible musical, OLIVER!, which last played at your theatre. Sony print 0004. 9 reels, Dolby stereo. Kodak 2383 stock, 1999. Intermission after reel 5. Things YOU suck for: Reels were a mixture of heads and tails, with no indication on leaders or tape as to orientation! Saggy, loose winds. Leader of reel 1 was spliced back on out of frame in the black. Fanfold splices of 4 or 5 frames on heads and tails Things you may or may not be to blame for: No notes or markings on visible parts of leaders to indicate that this show had an intermission! Grrr!!! To the UA Fossil Creek 11...um, yeah, you guys suck. Your print of Life Aquatic is royally screwed. If I hadn't wanted to see the movie so badly, I would have left after the second trailer. Scratches everywhere !! Ugh! Vertical base and emulsion scratches, platter scratches and dirt/dust were present en masse throughout the entire print. What's up, guys? Please get it together! Like I said before, I wish I didn't have to write this, but I feel it's necessary so that yall can improve your presentation. However, due to company policy, I can't name the theatre where this film came from. But here goes my rant!! To Whomever had my friends print of Darkness before him, YOU SUCK BIG DONKEY RECTUM AND I HOPE YOU CHOKE ON THAT DONKEYS FILTHY EXCREMENT!!!! Ok, here goes. 1) Apparently you can't find the clear splice that you used to build up with because reels 5 & 6 were on 1 reel. 2) Nevermind that reels 5 & 6 came with the Tail for Reel 2!!! 3) What was labeled with Reel 5's head was actually reel 4 and came with reel 6's tail!!! 4) What was labeled Reel 4, was actually Reel 3 and came with 1's tail....do you see a trend here??? 5)After we sorted that mess out, we Started loading reel 1. It was nice of you to attatch Reel 1's head to your TRAILER PACK!!! 6) After we got rid of all the extra trailers, my friend finally matched the frames on the head with the movie. 7) ARE YOU SO BLIND AS YOU NEED TWO ID FRAMES!!!! 8) You cut off the tail on Reel 6, this is minor as I know a few theatres that do this(cough)Carmike in Plant City!!(cough) 9) and to put the icing on the cake, after 2 hours af sorting reels and heads and tails and organizing that right, we apparently missed your cue tape on the edge of the film which caused my friends first show to shut down TWICE!!! 10) And to make a bad cut even worse, THANKS for all the wonderful diagonal base scratches down the WHOLE print!!! Big friggin' deal you got a bad print. It happens every week. NAME THE THEATER! OUT THEM FOR THEIR SUCKINESS! And don't forget to flat out demand a new print from the distributor.
