quote: Thomas Dieter I hate to say this Bruce, but from all the large Corporate theatres that I have attended, most of them don't care. I have to say that the little guy that owns a few theatres takes care of prints better than and Regal, AMC, Carmike, Etc. Just my experience.
I went to see Lord of War at a local independent the other week. When the previews started I noticed the picture was skewed due to the scope lens not being in correctly and their top masking was set for flat, leaving a large black area between the top of the picture and the masking.
I went to the box office and told them the problems. The girl paused and said "It'll probably be fixed when the movie starts but I'll tell her (manager on duty) anyway."
The problem was never fixed.
I happen to mange a Carmike in the same town. Not only do we offer a superior presentation in that we have side masking on all screens, but the above scenario would never happen at my theatre.
It may be true that in general independents have better presentations than chains, but its not a hard and fast rule.
