traight members take note: Repeated assertions that you are straight WILL AUTOMATICALLY BE ASSUMED to mean that you are STILL IN THE CLOSET.

Well that is fine, I have never cared what people think. However, I jsut have to ask, if someone saying that they are straight is hiding that they are gay then what is a gay pride parade or a gay day or any of that gay stuff hiding? Maybe I don't want to know though.

It must be another one of those double standards. IF you are gay it is ok to say you are proud of yourself. But hey, if you are straight and proud that you are not gay, then you must be some sort of evil bigot. Well, my apologies for being the norm

Don't be silly, Chris. Gay people get out and assert their pride because they are so often made to feel ashamed of being gay.

There has never been a reason to feel ashamed of being straight. This is why you run the risk of coming off as an insensitive imbecile when you barge into a "gay pride" thread and attempt to make it all about you and how straight you might be.

That talk of "double standards" is pure bullshit. Take a look at this list of minorities that -- at one time or another, for one reason or another -- have been underpriviledged or discriminated against:

Women
Blacks
Jews
Gays

Men -- particularly straight, white men -- have never been on the list. There's no double standard. You guys have historically been the bad guys.

If y'all ever end up on the "hated" list, THEN and ONLY THEN, would I ever entertain the notion of "white history month" or "straight pride."

...and, now that you have made me think about it, why should you be proud of being straight? What's to be proud of? You guys are nothing but trouble.

My advice to you would be to stay out of these threads if they upset you. Or go start a "straight pride" thread if you really feel that strongly about it. And, should you get upset when assholes like me come along to piss all over YOUR parade...just remember that you're on-the-record as being opposed to "those double-standards."

You wouldn't want Brad to go changing "Hippinator" to "Hippocrite" would you? [Razz]

Let's not have this thread turn into that arguement again. Look back to the beginning and you'll see that's what happened a year or two ago.
If you don't want to come out, or you are str8, then don't read or post on this thread. [Wink]

This thread does not upset me at all. If you read my previous posts I have no problem with people being gay and have never treated a gay person with any disrespect because of it. If someone is gay then it does not affect my life in anyway so I do not worry myself with it.

You just proved my point Manny, it is as if it is wrong to be the majority in today society. That is what bothers me, whether it be on race, sexual preference, gender or whatever else.

As far as your list of minorities, go open a history book and then get back to me when you find out that caucasion males have not always been the dominant majority.

I was not trying to start any arguments in this thread or cause any problems but there are double standards at work and anyone that would defend those is a hypocrite.

You'll get no sympathy from me. All those other minorities that I mentioned earlier have already had their turn being the hated ones. Maybe it's just you guys' turn. Are you man enough to handle it...without whining?

I don't think it's good to say it's someone else's turn. Hate like that has to stop somewhere, so those who've been through it should rise above it or the cycle will never end.

Exactly...and that's what Black History Month, Women's Lib and Holocost museums are all about. It's also what Gay Pride is there for. Ditto for "coming out week" and even threads like this one.

Too bad some straight guys start feeling "left out" and decide to hijack and/or belittle the significance of these events.

And, with that, I'll say no more (by popular demand).

I'm proud to say that this thread is boring me. It can only end one way, and thats most likely with it being locked and people being banned, and thats just stupid. When that happens to those who are arguing, I hope you are proud of having that happen to another member or yourself. How long has it been in this thread since someone answered the question in the topic. Probably too long, so I think we should just get back on topic here. [Cool]

I bet this will be proven to be a lie. [evil] [Big Grin]

And as far as the topic goes, I'm straight, but I guess me saying that would be off-topic wouldnt it. [Smile]

Personally, I don't see what is wrong with a healthy debate. Noone is making fun of anyone here and I cant see any reason why the thread would be locked if this discussion were to continue.

However, since political correctness arguments never go anywhere, mostly becasue being politically correct requires you to ignore reality, I will just spit in my last two cents.

I will never be ashamed of who I am or the history of my people/family. I have never denied that my family owned slaves in the 1800's. It is a part of my family's history. I also don't think anyone should be ashamed of who they are for any reason, but when it becomes ok to turn the tables and hate someone for their hatred is very hypocritical and makes you no better than them. I don't claim to be any better and that is why I am not afraid to say how I really feel.

I will not comment on this topic again but if anyone wants to discuss it feel free to send me an email.

Thanks Wolff for bringing in some "common sense" and providing a grounding for us all.

**I** personally do not agree with several of Manny's comments, however I do think he has some valid points just as I think Chris has some valid points.

I too would hate to see this thread locked no matter how "spirited" it gets. Discussion is good....

While I certainly do not like, nor condone, some of the personal "labels" and name-calling, I believe adults can have an exchange of views without stooping to the emotional "arguments" that seems to worm their way into such discussions.

Manny, Chris, and all ...keep on posting. I for one find it healthy as well as enlightening.

And, to some of the self-appointed "thread police", straight or gay, if you're "bored" or whatever, there are plenty of other threads for yous to post in.

I agree, but it seems that online everything is taken the wrong way, I'm sure Manny and I can argue all day without name calling but I know there are many people around here that cannot. That is why I think that particular topic should be laid to rest in the forums. Notice I said topic earlier, not thread.
