Well, I don't come over to this forum as much as the others, so I just discovered this thread because it was bumped.
I really think there is enough prejudice to go around. I have always be very sexually active at an early age (how old are you in the 7th grade?) and have been attracted to both sexes from very early on. It didn't take me long to discover that gays can be as bigoted as straights. I experimented all thru college with both girls and guys. Emotionally I am much more drawn to women; sex with guys is just easier because guys are ALWAYS horny. Thing is, I was not accepted by EITHER group, straight or gay. If gays find the ostrasism by the straight world painful, try being maligned by BOTH gays and straights.
Very early on, I felt the wrath of gays who insisted that I was diluding myself in my relationships with women and when I said I was in love with a woman, I was told that my feelings were false; I was even sneared and shuned by a number of gays. As far as the gay guys were concerned, they said that I was "pretending to be straight" and encouraged me to "face the truth about being gay." While in the straight world, well...let me put it this way -- you can sleep with 300 women, but bed down with one guy and to the straight world, you are as queer as a three dollar bill, period. With that you get to experience all the nasty bigotry from that side of the isle as well. Most gays don't believe that a person can be bisexual.
Thing is, I don't even consider myself bisexual (omni-sexual, perhaps), as that kind of implies that a person is 50% attracted to each sex. I feel that when I am attracted to a woman, it's as passionate as any other straight guy and 100% heterosexual. I haven't been with a guy in decades because I have been in long-term, happy and sexually fulfilling relationships with women, but still, that doesn't mean I can't have a full-blown, 100% attraction to a hot guy. As for being OUT....my close circle of friends, mostly straight, know that I have had both types of relationships. At work, I don't volunteer that information to co-workers who are just that, not friends, but people I work with. They can guess all they want, but what's it anyone's business? If I am asked outright, and I rarely am because I don't "look" gay (whatever that truly stupid concept is) my answer is, "Why is my sexuality important to you? I don't think a person's sexual proclivity is anyone's business, especially in the workplace, unless of course you want to go to bed with me -- do you want to?" That always shuts them up.
All I know is, what I am attracted to is as much who I am as is the color of my hair and eyes and skin. And when I hear straight people talking about "choice" all I can say is, why are you so proud of being straight? You didn't to anything to get that way....you didn't work at it or earn it. You woke up one morning at the onset of puberty and looked at Mary Jane with the big tits and discovered, wow, you had a woody. You didn't say, "I wonder if I should choose to get a woody for her, or gee, there's Justin the quarterback with the bulging jockstrap, perhaps I'll get a woody looking at him. The woody chooses for you, and it never lies. You can tell yourself anything you want....WISH to be attracted to women, but why you like her or him has nothing to do with free will. Hell, even if you are totally straight you can't WILL yourself to be attracted to a particular girl. You are hot for this girl, but another does nothing for you. You can't control it at all. Even couples in love can suddenly realize that they are just no longer attracted sexually to each other, which wouldn't be such a crisis if as a society we weren't so damn totally hung up on sexuality, making it the measurement and the proof that we are "in love."
Heterosexual, homosexual, bi, omni, even asexual, the thing that counts most is that we love well.
