I drove down to the Showcase Springdale in Cincinnti to see it. They had a couple of rows roped off for what I was told were exhibitors. The newspaper indicated a 70mm presentation, and that turned out to be correct. Notice they are also showing a Disney CinemaScope short. This begs the question: was the short blown up and attached to the 70 print or shown separately on a third projector in 35MM? I was working at the Golf Mill Theater back then as an usher and I recall the image was actually slightly letterboxed with dark brown bars. Many theatres showed this with only two machines changing between 35 & 70mm. No, because the labs weren't able to do blow-ups in 1959. (The first 70mm blow-up releases weren't until 1963.) It would've been shown in 35mm, as described by Robert Throop.  |  IP: Logged
