..back to whining...
A question for all:
I mainly work in a discount 6plex.
My big wonder, and I really need help on this one is: Since I receive used prints, WHY do some theatres/operators CUT the tail leader off of the last reel, and even in the middle of the rating tag?
I get so "peeved" at this for this DUMB practice, since I have to splice back on that tail leader, since it's also been only masking taped back together....!
I can tolerate inboard soundtrack winds from operators who don't know how to rewind film on a CHR MUT, I do get bent some with lazy people who can't break down prints where the splice is to be broken at, not just anywhere in the filmroll, I get the patience test when prints come in and we think that the last reel, or the first reel is missing due to the previous above and leaders attached with non matching "reference" frames...
..but why cut off the tail leader of the last reel. I can see this if the print came from a double wound feature for one platter deck....
..just a bit "peeved..."

quote: Darryl Spicer I had three prints showing in the same auditorium.
..been there and done that many-a-times: wind one feature behind another without attaching the two together when having three prints for one house.
But unfort, when show scheduling messes this little practice up, I have to have the 3 prints on their own rings. - one print is on the floor on the 'pizza scoop' board, or leaning up against the wall, also on the board.
Another thing if theatres are having such a hard time with cueing, why can't they get the manuals out, or talk to their tekkies and figure out HOW to work the system out to where cues can be place in accordance to the automation requirements of: (1)-trailers, (2)-show, (3)-credit, and (4)-end of show cue requirements.
Look up in the manual section of FT for what your automation is and what the cue arrangement is for that certain automation. It isn't that hard to figure out.
I know that some theatres have "cold endings" - one cue at the end just to drop the dowser and bring up the lights.
Also, if cues don't seem to work during a good run, replace the cues with new cuetape, for cuetape DOES wear out, especially the 5 inch wraparound edge cues for the grounding roller type. One has to replace this form of cue at least once a week.
Quit being so FRIKKEN lazy in adding cues to the buildups! ...and leave the damned end leaders on!
I know that you have to cut off the leaders when doing a buildup, but the last reel tail leader CAN STAY ON! Some have been so "horsewhipped" in a practice that leaders HAVE to come off, no matter what...but really.....THINK! (Rant-Rant..lol)
quote: Brad Miller Makes for a really shitty ending to the credit roll too, doesn't it?
Yes Brad, it does. I sometimes have to advance my final cue up to where the dowser drops just before the rating tag-to get away from the "gloop and glop" during the rating tag presentation at times.
Just have to "slap" these people that do this DUMB habit!
