Yes Gordon, LABYRINTH it was. And yes, it was at the Cinesphere at Ontario Place. I went up to the booth and spoke to a very amiable projectionist who kindly gave me two frames of an un-named Imax film which I still have to this day on my desk. For all I know, it could have been you. LABYRINTH was my second Imax Experience. My first experience was NORTH OF SUPERIOR which totally and completely blew me away -- that transition from the small image sitting in the middle of the IMAX screen (which I thought was the entire movie was going to look like, Imax Virgin that I was) which then instantly jumped to the full IMAX screen image flying out over the waterfall, caused me to say under my breath without even consciously being away of my saying it, "Holy Shit" to no one in particular; everyone around me murmerd in agreement.

I feel your pain, Aaron...

Here's a big fat YOU SUCK to the Regal Regency 7...AGAIN!
Recently I attended the 2:00PM show of Charlie & The Chocolate Factory in #1, the big screen.
This is my first experience in the "big house" since the remodel.

Not only did the auditorium echo worse than any I've ever seen the screen was curved but the lens didn't seem to be correct (I don't know if you're supposed to use a different lens on a curved screen?) But basically only the left and right edges of the image were in focus.
The bottom of the screen, as far as I can tell had a big fat shadow on it from the WINDOW SIL. Yes, that's right folks, it looked from where I was sitting that the lens didn't actually clear the window ledge!
Moreover either the lens wasn't cenetered in the turret or the apperture plate wasn't in all the way cause we had about 12" of image on the left curtain and about 12" of shadow on the right side of the screen.
Let's also talk quickly about the scratches on the print (some were random and jumped around, others were on the right edge).

And this folks is the day the GM was working along with his lead assistant.
Now THAT'S presentation!

But was the PRE-SHOW stuff presented properly, or did it at least look "big"? If so, then they did an outstanding job regardless. [Wink]

We timed it perfect and walked into the auditorium just as the 2wenty was wrapping up.
Only got to see the Regal logo doing that watery crap and then the greenband. Yay!

My best experience with the 2wenty was when we were at Regal in Turlock a while back to see Fantastic 4. It was down so the whole 15 minutes before the show was a blank screen and no non-sync.

AMC BUCKHEAD BACKLOT 6 in ATLANTA, GA - YOU SUCK!

Through a glitch in some system, somewhere ... you got to run my print of Rize for your special event at 7:00 yesterday. I even went through the trouble of clamping it and bringing it to you when our 3:25 show dropped, and then picked it up afterwards in time for my 10:15 show. In the 2 hours you had my print, you managed to have a nice little TAIL WRAP, damaging the last 80 feet of Reel 5. Hope you enjoy the bill from technicolor for reel replacement that I just ordered.

I don't if this is the new fashion - if so then it really sucks:
Some projectionists of the "A.R.G.E. Seekinos" find it necessary to cut off half of the credits (in changeover op.) in order to save time.

This is annoying, because:

  • when I get that print, the credits are covered with splices (very fun)
  • No one would at least protect the "end" with a sort of tail leader ("itchy & scratchy")
  • the credits are still part of the movie (which I also like to watch - regardless if I am projectionist or customer) - and I get paid for showing an entire movie (Obviously the others get paid for tossing prints I don't know)
PLEASE don't do that ever!

Whoever ran print #170 of "Dukes Of Hazzard" before me, YOU SUCK!

You ran it on 6K reels, as the heads from reel 1 and reel 4 and the tails of reel 3 were never cut. BUT:

-You used masking tape to reattach the leaders and tails.

-You wound some reels emulsion-in, and others emulsion-out.

-You left the between-reel areas of the film quite dirty.

-You took a number of little clips from what one might assume to be cut-out lab splices (though I did not see any middle-of-the-reel splices go thru), or maybe it was an ID frame you cut off... Whatever it was, you took all the clippings and taped them together into two little bundles, one of which was at the bottom of the can, the other came flying out of the middle of reel 2 when I was making up the print. [Roll Eyes]

I love this thread, have used it myself, but wonder if anyone has gotten feedback from any of their "outing" posts. Have any complainants ever contacted the culpable booth/theatre butchers to out them face-to-face, phone-to-phone or email-to-email? What's been the response if any? Has it changed the way bad guys send out film?

I doubt that there is a response to anything that you see here, unless you are outing the competing theatre next to you. I've been asked multiple times why I place a half splice when breaking down, and when I have the opprotunity, I show them my hands from a previous print due to masking tape splice.

What I find funny is that no one here responeded to my first post about an actual masking tape splice.

Thomas, I've never seen it but I have heard of it. Drive-ins and such at the end of the season.

I doubt any self respecting film-techer would be damaging prints like the ones mentioned in this topic.
I did however get the phone number of and make a call to a certain theater that screwed up a print of Chicago I received scratched, filthy, and missing a few hundred feet of reel 4.
It was terrible. I think I've posted about it before.
The excuse I got from the "manager" was that the projectionist was having trouble with the equipment.
I asked if it was because he didn't know how to use it.

Long story short I now work there...The equipment runs a lot better now.

I have spoken to several.

Generally, I post a "You Suck!" when:

1) I don't know who the exact person or organization that is responsible for the problem.

2) The damage is especially bad, whether or not I have spoken to the responsible party.

3) I have spoken to the responsible party but I think they don't understand the problem or they don't care.

4) The responsible party is a repeat offender.

I see a lot of guys complaining about film damage of the sort that I see every day. Although I am not condoning that kind of abuse, there are times when it doesn't pay to make a fuss about it. Basically, if I post something about film damage in this thread, somebody has done something to get me pretty pissed off.
