If you maintain those Supers they will put out as good a picture as anything made today. The neat thing is you can still get parts for them. I have been a projectionist both part-time and full-time, both union and non-union for about 13 years. Below is my employment history. United Artists 1990-1993 Loews Theatres 1993-1997 National Amusements (Union) 1997-2002 Independent 2002-Present Newport International Film Festival (Rhode Island) 2001, 2002 New Haven Film Festival (Connecticut) 2000, 2001 I've learned a great deal from each one of these employers. I've worked for both national chains and independents and both have advantages. Like most people on this site I'm hopelessly attracted to the projection booth. Prior to that I was involved in custom home theatre design and integration for a company in Toronto for one year. Before that I was with IMAX for fourteen years. Nice place here. To Bob Allen, you are right about the Supers. Like an old Harley, keep 'em clean and oiled and they'll last forever. Also have two complete heads as spares or for parts. They fill up a 15 X 30 scope screen just fine! To Richard Greco, my wife recently retired her '83 S-10 Blazer. Great vehicle, and we actually used it for offroading here and there. Poor thing just got old, only 270K miles. I work for Premiere Cinema Corp. in Hereford Texas at Moovies 6. I've been here for almost 2 years now and have worked myself up to Shift Manager. I do alot of the office work and enjoy the heck out of it. This is a kewl business and would like to stay in it as long as possible. After that I moved to an independent twin where I booked and managed the booth, ran most shows and built and broke all product for 6 months. I left briefly because the twin owner doesn't know how to run a theater so she closed down the movies when I left. I'm not projectionnist. When I was student (1971 to 1975), I worked as projectionnist (with diploma !). I drived Philips DP 70 with carbon arc lamphouses (Peerless Magnarc) only in 35 mm, and also Simplex XL, Ernemann VII - b , Philips FP20 and Prevost P55 with 2.5 kW xenon. Later (1975 to 2000), I was projectionnists-formater in addition to my principal employment I live and I work in Villeurbanne (130 000 inhabitants and ONLY one cinema) a university city close to Lyon (500 000 inhabitants). Lyon is situated, in France, on an axis Paris-Mediterranean sea ; it is also the town where, in 1895, the Lumiere brothers carried out their first tests of cinematograph... I am teaching Physic in a school of engineers, a "Grande Ecole" which graduates over 800 engineers each year in 10 fields of specialisation. In the campus, the students have a "cine-club" and present a film each week in 16 or 35 mm (non-commercial performances). They are equiped with FP 20 and cp50. The theater has 300 seats. Although my work moves away me from cinema (a little), I am always impassioned by the cinema and really very glad to find me among you! I started 3 and some odd years ago selling popcorn in a Carmike 15 plex in salt lake, worked my way up to the booth (that is were i was a projectionist)became the head of projection, then took on the 1st asst. position along for the ride. to make my long post even longer I am now the General Manager Of the Redstone 8 in Park City, Utah and am lovin' it ever second. its nice to get out of the cooperate ring of getting things approved the slowest way possible. well that is all i have, anybody around park city stop on by I'll let you tour the great redstone (redstone not really guaranteed to be great) peace  |  IP: Logged
