Sills was my boss at meadows and later Colorado Mills. now he is a DM out in Cali. Steve, I believe, still works part time at greenwood. I didnt spend a lot of time with steve.. we clashed at many things. it would be cool if redmond were my boss.. but he isnt. and the man couldnt fire anyone. he is too nice. of course.. no one would do anything around him to get him riled up anyway. everyone likes him.. we call him flanders (from the simpsons). did you run the "showscan" equipment at greenwood when you were there? or whatever the thing was up in the booth with a monitor and "option" buttons?  |  IP: Logged Joe Redifer You need a beating today Posts: 12859 From: Denver, Colorado Registered: May 99 posted 04-07-2004 04:08 PM                        That's Interfilm I think. I think I discussed hat a bit on the Greenwood picture page. But yes, I ran that. Last time I saw Steve he said a lot of the things I had handwritten were still hanging in the booth. I think so! While I'm getting my Masters., I've been able to get hired as a part time projectionist by a local non-profit theatre, the Pickford Cinema, in Bellingham, WA. I've never worked with a non-profit before, but independent, art, and foreign fare has always been something I've felt needed a bigger venue, and am happy to be helping in that regard. Our two other theatres in town are Regals, and they're both an easy 20-30 years old, and have been passed on from chain to chain through the years. They look and feel well worn. If anyone wants to open a top-notch first run, Bellingham is your place. Anyway, The pickford ( www.pickfordcinema.com ) is a small (95 seats) single auditorium thats run by four paid projectionist/managers and a large volunteer base. If anyone wants to share non-profit experience, suggestions, etc. with me, i'd be grateful. And if anyone wants to donate a film cleaner, I'd be even more grateful. -Adam  |  IP: Logged Nicole Halper Film Handler Posts: 47 From: Plano, Texas, USA Registered: Mar 2004 posted 05-24-2004 01:58 PM                        My position, hmmm... specifically I am a concessionist, usher, box (worker?), and Usher-B at Cinemark @ Legacy in Plano, TX. I have worked concession for 2 years- which I believe is a record- Usher and Box both for a bit over a year, and Booth for only 7 months. For my theatre, two years seems to be a long time, especially considering I am only 17 (thus I started the earliest I could at 15). I also work for the REG mega corp. I am the booth manager for the brooklyn center 20 were it is my duty to brake as many things as possible for Jason Miller to fix. I have been working in the booth for 3 years and have an extensive background in electronics. I also helped miller with a retrofit in the twin cities. I've managed to dodge the questions long enough, so here today, I will tell you Who the HECK I am. My name is Michael Brady Olpin. But you can call me Mike. I was born in Salt Lake City, UT on December 18th 1982. I moved out to California when I was four, and have lived in San Diego county since. My favorite bands include Reel Big Fish and all of Ben Folds bands (Ben Folds Five, Ben Folds, and The Bens) In terms of film, I enjoy science fiction & comedies. My favorite directors are Kubrick & Speilberg. I have a particular soft spot for well done animation. The Lion King is one of my absolute favorite movies ever made. My interests include (but are not limited to!) Computers (or more specifically Macintosh computers), Audio/Video, Cartooning & Animation, and just about anything mechanical. I suppose I've always been into technology, so when I got hired at Edwards Cinemas, I was really eager to learn about the booth. That's when I stumbled across this site. For a while I read and read, and finally I decided to register and start participating here in the forums. Finally about a year and a half ago, a booth position opened up and I got promoted to projectionist. I'm currently studying Media Communications at Grossmont college. This encompasses everything from Television, Film, Audio, Print, and Multi-Media. My future career goal is to do story and/or editorial for feature animation. My mother has just purchased the buisness and is expanding to a wait 3 cinema complex WOW!!!! anyway the company is great, i can see the beach from the cinema and love every second of working there. I have just recently completed my Certificate III In Entertainment (Cinema Projection). My other experience includes work experience with AtLab a Cinema Technician Company while i was with them for my 2 weeks we did an Install at Brisbane's Old IMAX Premises at Southbank we turned it into a Commercial 35mm cinema with one of the biggest screens and biggest sound systems in the southern hemisphere. Ihad the time of my life and learned a hell of alot fromt he brisbane boys. That just about sums up my life so far future plans are to become a head tech in a city complex. I'm a Phoenix AZ transplant from LA. I'm an Assistant Manager at the Harkins Camelview 5 (They like to call it "The premiere arthouse of the Southwest") located in Scottsdale AZ. I started working for the company in Feb. 2002 after my move to AZ. I became an AM in Dec 2003 and soon took over filmwork several months later. I'm 18 years old and I live in the town that is over on the left. I am a soon-to-be assistant manager (yipee!) at the Chakeres Wilmington Plaza Cinema in -- you'd never guess -- Wilmington. Not bad for less than 14 months of theater experience. I started there in November of 2002, started working in the booth a month later, left for college in August of 2003, then transferred back home in January of 2004 and assumed my old position -- luckily also being a logical choice for a management position. I hope to assume the general manager position when our current GM leaves in about two years and use that as a jumping point for a nice little career in film exhibition. I'm also casually looking into buying the theater that is for sale in my town and working on filming a movie. Interestingly enough, I don't actually enjoy watching movies very much at all -- with a few exceptions. Film exhibition is my passion when it comes to means of survival I guess and music my more whimsical passion.  |  IP: Logged
