Frank,
Down here we call the first significant temperature-dropping cold front of the season a Blue Northern.
I get a charge out of watching the local TV meterologists almost have an orgasm on the air whenever we have any kind of severe weather.
*Weather guy, on TV, pointing to a stretch of Interstate Highway from video from the station's tower cam*
"You see this area right here? That's BLACK ICE, Dan!"

Old men who walk around the neighborhood carrying sticks.

What the fuck is up with that?

I don't mean a cane or a walking stick. I mean an ordinary hunk of wood or a piece of a tree branch. Typically, it's about 2 or 3 feet long. It would be too short to use as a cane or walking stick. Sometimes they tie orange construction ribbon on them or spray paint them orange.

I can't imagine why an old fart would think an old tree branch or a piece of one-by would make a good weapon. It's not heavy enough to use as an exercise weight. Besides, he'd need two of them. Visibility? Maybe, but wearing bright colored clothes would be better.

Is it just some kind of neanderthal instinct that gets triggered after age 70? They have to carry a "tool" of some kind to prove they are still "men?"

Why the fuck is it that old men who go out for walks have to carry sticks?

It's a baton. He's looking for some other old fart to pass it off to so they can collectively make it around the block. [Razz]

People who are "too cool for the room"
Not that I go to parties any more (I've developed that phobia where I am afraid to go out of my house to places where there are crowds of insufferable people pretending to be having fun), but the too cool snots can be rather fun -- I see them as a challenge. The challenge is to see how you can maneuver over to them with a plate of your favorite dipping sauce (mine is spicy jalapeno tomato puree) so while offering it to them, you "accidentally" dump that dip anywhere in the chest area (for the oh too cool male jerks, sour-cream-and-chives dip looks really cool in the crotch). I then call up my considerable acting ability using my famous, "Oh, oh my, I am soooo sorry." How cool are they now, walking around with a big red sauce stain on her tits, or a "did he just, um, you know, in his pants" stain in his crotch? huh?

I will warn you though, if you do accomplish one of those missions, although everyone will secretly see you as a hero, you just might be crossed off the invite lists for future parties, phobia notwithstanding.

When CCA workers put their hands in the popcorn bag to open it. Bugs the [bs] out of me.

But each one of them has a stick. It must be a multi-baton race, then!

I might have posted this before as well, but I can't find it, so....

People who should certainly know better who say ex cetera. I once heard Dan Rather himself misspeak it. And just this week I heard it on a news show. It's as bad as when someone says "ax me a question." I hear ex cetera and I yell at the TV, "Go watch THE KING AND I and listen to the bald guy." It happens often enough that my lady and I now have a thing where we both say that line in unison every time we hear some talking head use the "ex" mistake.

When I go to the bakery and they use a tissue to transfer my chosen pastries into a bag, and then they PUT THE TISSUE WITH THEIR GERMS ON IT INTO MY BAG.

This one dork at the bakery uses a different tissue for each donut.

International/foreign "Film festivals" who show up the first oday of shows with 20 dvd's, most of which are screeners with watermarking or captioning stating such, no region-free dvd players (luckily we have one), no operators, no tech sheets or info, incorrect running times, and horrible prints without cores and expect said prints ready to go out immediatley after the show when they didn't even get their content to us to check by the deadline...

Haven't seen it here. Could be they use the stick as a signal when they cross the street. You know, to waken those distracted drivers. [sleep] [sleep]
