There is a difference between infants that cannot communicate any way other than to scream. In those situations it boils down to shitty parents not putting an ounce of thought into what their kids are going through and realizing that they are in pain flying. It is cruel to the child and passengers that have to endure their parent's stupidity and the child's suffering.

Then there are kids that are able to speak and communicate things like "my ears hurt" or whatever it may be. In those situations it boils down to shitty parents not paying attention to what their kids are telling them and never disciplining them when they are young to learn that screaming is NOT the way to get what they want.

Parents have to learn that when the kid screams because he wants a toy or something to NEVER give it to him. When the kid calmly asks for the toy, to let them have it (within reason). That sort of discipline will train them for their future life. NEVER reward a kid for throwing a tantrum. [Mad] As the kid's parent, it is their responsibility to suffer on their own while the kid throws a tantrum outside of public earshot to teach them to behave.

Brad, the proof of what you are saying can be seen every week on Super Nanny. The star of the show is a woman who simply applies exactly what you are saying in households where terror reigns. The kids in the show are literally terrorizing the parents, and these dunderheads are helpless to put a stop to it. The Nanny uses time outs, repeated reinforcements of consequences for unacceptable behavior and although it's sanitized and condensed for the hour show, she does get the little hellcats to behave and act like children are supposed to act, and by that I didn't mean like obedient little zombies, but fun-loving and happy, which CAN'T happen when a child has to throw fits constantly because it's the only way he/she's been taught to communicate. I am always very impressed with the seeminly simple solutions when applied consistantly and firmly. Parenting made simple; pregnant couples would do well to be required to watch this show.

But that's a bit off topic, so here....

Effin LEAF BLOWERS....at 8:45 in the freakin morning. First off, any manufacturer who can't design a blowing machine that can move air without making 190db worth of noise should be forced to close its door. I have been tempted to take out my old BB gun and test how good my aim still is from my apartment complex window to the jerk below. Or just go down and pose as an Immigration Agent and watch them scatter like the wind that they are poluting.

BTW, these thing do polute even more than lawnmowers which are known to spew huge amounts of what amounts to raw combustion engin exhause (no catalytic converter) into the air.

You run a good chance of going to jail for child abuse/endangerment if you spank your kids nowadays, especially in public.

No, they just force feed them Ridilin and a host of other supressive drugs. Doctors rarely go to jail for child abuse/endangerment when they over prescribe or unnecessarilly prescribe powerful supressant drugs just to keep a kid from acting out because of incompetent parenting.

My nephew was prescribed the powerful Xanax along with Paxil with the instructions to "take one whenever you feel anxious." The kid was up to 19 pills in one 16 hour period. The "doctor" barely saw the kid for 10 minutes before he gave him those scripts and insane instructions. The results were horrific. Seening a patient for 10 minutes and then writing a prescritions -- this isn't a doctor, this is an effin drug dealer.

My sister works at a pharmacy. She said "You would be amazed" at the number of kids around here who are on Ritalin.

Frank, the doctors get "incentives" from drug companies to prescribe their shit, so that's not surprising. That also explains why so many people in America are on drugs.

lol @ Ritalin being called a "suppressive drug." That's a good one.

Not to say it isn't overprescribed and ADHD overdiagnosed (both of which are true; that, coming from someone who really does have ADHD), but to say it is "suppressive" shows a complete lack of understanding on how the drug works.

And it's not quite as simple as saying that drug companies give them incentives, because people are overprescribed even when an insurance company requires using generics (like methylphenidate instead of Ritalin).

I think that also people think that there is a drug to cure nearly everything and they probably demand prescriptions from their doctors. I hope that I am never on any drug (aside from the insulin I already take) because the side effects are so bad. Once you start popping pills, you are truly old.

I think it's more that they simply think that the doctor didn't "do anything" if they don't give them a prescription, even if it's something that needs no prescription. So partly because of people thinking like this we get antibiotic prescriptions for the common cold (which isn't treated by antibiotics since it's viral).

I've noticed that most people are pretty stupid about antibiotics. They get a cold and want them. I tell them that their infection is viral. Their response is "Better safe than sorry". Uh, no. You can actually damage your body's resistance to bad bacteria if you use too many antibiotics, especially when not necessary.

The ipod commercial, more specifically the use of the "word" APPS in that commercial. Let's see how many times we can say APPS in 15 seconds worth of copy and still have enough time to show how totally awesome it is to move the screen with your finger. There's an apps for that....and there's an apps for that....yah, and theirs an apps for my foot up your ass.

Apple thinks it's soooo cool to use abreviated tech terms. It makes poor Chad Q. Can-I-Be-Any-More-Of-A-Vapid-Dimwit Public think he is just everso with-it that he knows those thirty two million applications on his cute little gadget are called APPS. He hasn't the foggest idea how any of it works nor does he have the faintest curiosity to find out....he's just glad it does and that someone somewhere is smart enough to make it all work for him. So he will happily keep paying and paying. Hey, nimrod....you like paying so you can look cool? There's an apps for that.
