They are insane. And it's not just old people. It EVERYONE. They drive 20 mph over the speed limit on I95 and tailgate at less than a car length behind you. And at that same 80 - 85mph speed, they zoom back and forth across three lanes with virtually not car lenth for any safety margin of error. In my entire driving career in NYC -- not typically know as an easy city to commute -- I have seen 2 vehicle crashes with fatalities. I was in Fort Lauderdale for 10 days and in that time I saw 3 fatalities on I95. THREE! one where a motorcyclist's body was about 100 yards away from the crushed cycle and his leg about 10 feet from the rest of his body. I nearly crashed myself when I saw it, uncovered, just there on the road. You can sit there for a long time signaling, trying to make a lane change, and not one of those people will let you in. WHereas in a real big city like Denver, Chicago, Orlando or Salt Lake, normally within five seconds of putting the blinker on, somebody will open up a space. "Don't block the box" is one I heard often on the radio when I lived in NYC. It was an effort to fight gridlock situations that can and do occur in Manhattan traffic. Some guy drives out into the intersection as the light is about to change. The traffic ahead of him doesn't move. So he's stuck out there blocking traffic for the crossing street. As more people copy the same selfish behavior the gridlock situation grows. This same problem can occur in ANY city. Right now I see it happening at certain intersections in downtown Lawton thanks to so much traffic being detoured off I-44. Don't expect that here. If you signal for a lane change here, the following drivers will close up any and all spaces. 'Vegas drivers do not like having anyone merge in front of them. In fact, they don't like anyone in front of them period. Signaling here is considered a sign of weakness, and of a loser.
