As difficult as it may be to believe, the "dumpy" UA Movies near the Long Beach Marina ran the following in 70mm (on screen #1, first house on the right as you enter): Return of the Jedi (1983) Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom (1984) Aliens (1986) Star Trek IV: The Voyage Home (1986) Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade (1989) Hoffa (1992) When I worked there during the early 90s, while attending nearby Cal State Long Beach, there were some 70mm trailers, including Black Rain and The Golden Child, still present in the booth from the various 70mm engagements they had. I also recall a time in early 1990 when it looked like we would get a 70 of The Hunt for Red October, but we ended up showing it in 35mm, and the Lakewood Center, a few miles up the road, got the 70 for the south LA county region. Which is just as well because Lakewood Center was a much larger and nicer place to see a movie. Pacific seemed to have a lot of muscle for booking 70mm prints for their Lakewood theater, as did Syufy with their Cinedome in Orange, a few miles to the east. UA only ever seemed to get 70s for their Long Beach theater (or mall twins in nearby Cerritos and Westminster) whenever the studios struck a HUGE number of prints.  |  IP: Logged Manny Knowles "What are these things and WHY are they BLUE???" So now that the place is all-digital...the presentations are perfect! Frankly, I'm surprised the place is still in business and hasn't been razed, especially since the AMC across the street expanded and Edwards (Regal) has the 20+ screen megaplex just a couple miles away. ********** Getting back on topic... When "Around the World in 80 Days" was first released in Chicago in 1957, it was advertised as Todd-AO.
