There was a very progressive church that decided to have four worship services each Sunday. There would be one for those new to the faith, another for those who liked traditional worship, one for those who had lost their faith and were seeking to get it back and a final one for those who had a bad experience with the church and were constantly complaining about it.

They decided to give name for each of the services:

FINDERS, KEEPERS, LOSERS, WEEPERS!

A Sunday school teacher was telling her class the story of the Good Samaritan,in which a man was beaten, robbed and left for dead. She described the situation in vivid detail so her students would catch the drama.

Then she asked the class,"If you saw a person lying on the roadside all wounded and bleeding, what would you do?"

A thoughtful little girl broke the hushed silence."I think I'd throw up." [Big Grin]

There is a knock on St. Peter's door. He looks out and a man is standing there. St. Peter is about to begin his interview when the man disappears.

A short time later there's another knock. St. Peter gets the door, sees the man, opens his mouth to speak, and the man disappears once again.

"Hey, are you playing games with me?" St. Peter calls after him.

"No," the man's distant voice replies anxiously"They're trying to resuscitate me." [Big Grin]

One Sunday a teenager was in church. When the collection plate was
passed around,he pulled a dollar bill from his pocket and dropped it in.

Just at that moment the person behind him tapped him on his shoulder and handed him a $20..00 bill. Secretly admiring the man's generosity,
the boy placed the $20.00 in the plate and passed it on.Then the boy felt another tap from behind and heard a whisper:

"Son that was your $20.00 bill that fell out of your own pocket. [Big Grin]

The best illustration of the value of brief speech reckoned
in dollars was given by Mark Twain.

His story was that when he had listened for five minutes to
the preacher telling of the heathen, he wept, and was going
to contribute fifty dollars... after ten minutes more of the
sermon, he reduced the amount of his prospective contribution to
twenty-five dollars... after half an hour more of eloquence, he
cut the sum to five dollars.

At the end of an hour or oratory when the plate was passed,
he stole two dollars. [Big Grin]

I needed some supplies from a Sunday school cupboard that was seldom used and was secured with a lock. I didn't know the combination, but our clergyman offered to give it a try.

Father Jack placed his fingers on the lock's dial and raised his eyes heavenward for a moment. Then he confidently spun the dial and opened the lock.Seeing how impressed I was with this demonstration of faith, he smiled and confided, "The numbers are written on the ceiling."

Jewish Sons

A Jewish father was concerned about his son who was about a year away from his Bar Mitzvah but was sorely lacking in his knowledge of the Jewish faith. To remedy this, he sent his son to Israel to experience his heritage. A year later the young man returned home.

"Father, thank you for sending me to the land of our Fathers," the son said. "It was wonderful and enlightening, however, I must confess that while in Israel I converted to Christianity."

"Oi vey," replied the father, "what have I done."

So in the tradition of the patriarchs, he went to his best friend and sought his advice and solace.

"It is amazing that you should come to me," stated his friend, "I too sent my son to Israel and he returned a Christian."

So in the tradition of the patriarchs they went to the Rabbi. "It is amazing that you should come to me," stated the Rabbi, "I too sent my son to Israel and he returned a Christian. What is happening to our sons?"

"Brothers, we must take this to the Lord," said the Rabbi.

They fell to their knees and began to wail and pour out their hearts to the Almighty. As they prayed the clouds opened and a mighty voice stated, "Amazing that you should come to Me. I, too, sent My Son to Israel..." [eyes]

Finding Jesus

A drunk stumbles along a baptismal service on Sunday afternoon down by the river. He proceeds to walk down into the water and stand next to the Preacher.

The minister turns and notices the old drunk and says, "Mister, Are you ready to find Jesus?" The drunk looks back and says, "Yes,Preacher. I sure am."

The minister then dunks the fellow under the water and pulls him right back up. "Have you found Jesus?" the preacher asked.

"No, I didn't!" said the drunk.

The preacher then dunks him under for quite a bit longer, brings him up and says, "Now, brother, have you found Jesus?"

"No, I did not Reverend."

The preacher in disgust holds the man under for at least 30 seconds this time brings him out of the water and says in a harsh tone, "My God, have you found Jesus yet?"

The old drunk wipes his eyes and says to the preacher..."Are you sure this is where he fell in?" [Wink]

Believe it or not, the following announcements actually appeared in various church bulletins.

The service will close with "Little Drops of Water." One of the ladies will start quietly and the rest of the congregation will join in.

Next Sunday a special collection will be taken to defray the cost of the new carpet. All those wishing to do something on the new carpet will come foreward and do so.

The ladies of the church have cast off clothing of every kind. They can be seen in the church basement Saturday.

A bean supper will be held on Tuesday evening in the church hall. Music will follow.

At the evening service tonight, the sermon topic will be "What is Hell?" Come early and listen to our choir practice. [Big Grin]

Hymn #365

A southern minister was completing a temperance sermon. With great enthusiasm he said, "If I had all the beer in the world, I'd take it and pour it into the river."

With even greater emphasis he said, "And if I had all the wine in the world, I'd take it and pour it into the river."

And then finally, he said, "And if I had all the whiskey in the world, I'd take it and pour it into the river."

Sermon complete, he then sat down.

The song leader stood very cautiously and announced with a smile, "For our closing song, let us sing Hymn #365: 'Shall We Gather at the River'." [Big Grin]

First Time at a Unitarian Service

A man goes to a Unitarian Universalist service for the first time,
and later is asked what he thought of it. "Darndest church I ever
went to," he replies, "the only time I heard the name of Jesus
Christ was when the janitor fell down the stairs." [Big Grin]

Theological debate

The thoroughly secular young attorney and the philosopher were engaged in fierce theological debate: "Heaven and hell, you will agree, may very well be separated by a wall," contended the lawyer. Should it happen that this wall would fall down, who would you say must rebuild it?

"The righteous would insist that the wicked do it; the latter would likely refuse. If this case came before a judge, which do you believe would emerge the winner?"

"It seems to me," replied the philosopher, "that any fair-minded judge would render a verdict against the wicked, since the likelihood is that the wall should crumble from the fires of hell rather than from the bliss of Paradise.

"On the other hand," he concluded, "I fully realize that hell surely contains a full quota of glib-tongued lawyers, and I should therefore not be surprised if they won the case." [Big Grin]
